Wellness kiosk manufacturer Futrex has received approval from the FDA to install several wellness kiosks in Hagerstown, Maryland, according to Herald-Mail Media. These kiosks will utilize infrared technology to give a user on a report on their body mass index.

In order to use the device, the user places their arm inside a blood pressure cuff. An infrared light shines on their arm and then the kiosk screen shows them their BMI.

"When the light shines into the arm, the beam is absorbed by muscle and reflected by fat, allowing the device to calculate a total body fat percentage," Brett Rosenthal, sales manager for Futrex told Herald-Mail Media.

Futrex also plans in the future to include tools in the kiosk to measure user's cardiovascular health.
