A group that supports free parking in Uptown Kingston is urging the Common Council of Kingston, New York to delay a vote that would pave the way for payment kiosks to be installed in city lots, according to the Daily Freeman News.
The group, Kingston Free Parking, says it is made up of Uptown residents, employees, business owners and property owners. It wants the Common Council to delay the planned vote on borrowing $125,000 to purchase the payment kiosks.
The kiosks would be used to collect parking fees in the city’s Uptown, Midtown and Downtown municipal lots, which currently can be used for free.
Kingston Free Parking has been circulating a petition and has launched a website, KingstonFreeParking.com, calling for the city to retain at least some free parking. The petition has nearly 1,000 signatures, the group says.
