Kinetics to unveil transportation security system

June 4, 2002

LAKE MARY, Fla. -- Kiosk maker Kinetics Inc. is entering the transportation security arena with the unveiling of KPASS, according to a company news release.

The Kinetics Passenger Authentication and Security System is the first step toward a "Known Traveler" program that would let airlines confirm passengers' identities. Kinetics is exhibiting the product at the McGraw-Hill Homeland Security & Defense Summit and Exposition June 6-7 in Washington, D.C.

KPASS enhances Kinetics' existing TouchPort self-service check-in kiosks with biometric devices such as fingerprint readers. Kinetics' kiosks are used by six U.S. airlines in more than 120 U.S. airports, according to the release. No details were available as to when KPASS would be in use.

KPASS is designed to communicate with airline and third-party information sources, such as government profiling databases, to verify passenger information. If a passenger is flagged as a potential risk, KPASS will notify appropriate authorities and provide a photo record that includes the time and place of identification, according to the release.
