The city of Owensboro, Kentucky is seeking bids to purchase three electronic kiosks as part of an effort to enhance navigation and information access in its downtown area. According to Assistant City Manager Lelan Hancock, the kiosks are intended to help visitors and residents locate downtown businesses, attractions, and events, serving as the final phase of the city's broader wayfinding initiative.

The kiosks will complement recently installed wayfinding signs across the city, which direct people to major destinations such as the convention center and other attractions. According to an Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer report, city officials say those signs have received positive feedback from visitors.

Hancock emphasized that electronic kiosks offer a major advantage over traditional paper maps, which quickly become outdated as businesses open, close or relocate. Downtown changes have made it difficult to keep static signage current, while digital kiosks can be updated instantly as conditions change. The system may also include QR codes to give users access to more detailed information.

The city issued the request for bids earlier this month and expects to open submissions later this week.
