Kansas lawmakers are seeking a 3 cents per kilowatt tax on commercial EV charging to support the highway repair fund, according to a ktla.com report.

One critic said the tax would amount to double taxation since EV owners already pay higher registration fees. The state passed a law in 2019 raising the registration fee to $100 compared to $30 for internal combustion vehicle owners on the grounds that it made up for the state's 24 cents per gallon fuel tax that doesn't apply to EV users.

The proposed law does not apply to home charging.
