THE HAGUE - In the Dutch towns of Roden, Kampen, Nunspeet and Winterswijk, job-seekers can now register with the Tempo-Team employment agency at their local post office. Using a conspicuous bright red kiosk, they can enter their personal details and establish live contact with an employment advisor. They can also access information about the jobs currently available, while local firms can advertise their vacancies. Kiosk manufacturer diz custom-designed the kiosk for Tempo-Team. In addition to a touchscreen monitor and a keyboard, the terminal has a webcam, ticket printer and telephone receiver. A job-seeker or employer can therefore establish direct personal contact with the Tempo-Team back office.
Tempo-Team is using the terminals as part of its "@office" scheme. This mobile concept has a team of seven employment advisors who do not work from a fixed location. Rather, they travel from office to office, planning their appointments flexibly using telephone and laptop. The advisors now have four "colleagues" in the form of the kiosks.
When the user finds an interesting vacancy, he can obtain a print-out of the relevant details from the built-in ticket printer. If he wishes to establish direct contact with the advisor, he lifts the telephone receiver and touches the screen. The job-seeker then speaks directly to a member of Tempo-Team's staff, each able to see the other via built-in webcam. The user can also scan in his CV or identity papers and transmit them directly to the Tempo-Team back office, while the advisor can take a photograph of the job-seeker using the remote webcam.
