JFK to install 40 automated passport kiosks

October 7, 2013

JFK International is the next airport to deploy automated passport kiosks to expedite the arrival of U.S. passengers from international flights. Similar machines are live at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport as well as two airports in Canada.

According to cnbc.com, 40 kiosks have been purchased by Delta for use in Terminal 4. JFK is the busiest entry point for international travelers, the article reported.

The technology was purchased from Vancouver Airport Authority and SITA for an undisclosed amount, but Delta said its overall cost is between $50,000 and $100,000 per kiosk. The initial program will be open only to U.S. citizens but will expand to include Canadian citizens in the near future.

"We're going to have a couple hundred people — 100 today, 200 tomorrow — test the system. If all goes well, we'll go fully live on Wednesday," Delta spokeswoman Leslie Scott said in the article.
