Japanese airports to test intelligent, mobile check-in kiosks

February 5, 2018

Airports in Kansai, Japan will test SITA's "KATE" – an intelligent check-in kiosk that can autonomously move around the airport as needed, according to futuretravelexperience.com.

The kiosks will use preinstalled application software to store geolocation data. A built-in battery will enable the units to move to congested areas to reduce waiting times.

The units have collision avoidance technology to allow for safe movement. The kiosks automatically return to the docking station for battery recharge.

The trial will include two kiosks and will run Feb. 5-28. Air France, Air China, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, KLM, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines and United Airlines will participate in the trial.
