Is self-checkout an invitation to steal?

NRF: Many retailers worry that self-checkout kiosks make shoplifting more attractive. It could be a big problem. According to one count, there were about 20,000 self-checkout systems deployed in retail stores at the end of 2002. But those that use the techology say that's not what happens. Most report that shrink figures are either unchanged or have declined slightly.
