The Iowa transportation department will submit a plan to spend $51.4 million in federal funds over five years to expand electric vehicle charging stations along interstate highways, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.
The federal funding is part of the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program to add charging stations within one mile of interstates and at a minimum of every 50 miles.
The department expects to deploy the stations at convenience stores and possibly at movie theaters, shopping malls and publicly available spots.
