Investments, grant fuel ecoATM growth

EcoATM, the San Diego-based company that operates automated electronics recycling kiosks, has made its first major expansion outside of California with the rollout of 28 kiosks in Texas, according to a company press release. Patrons of shopping malls in San Antonio, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston can now use the kiosks to receive cash for their unwanted mobile devices. 

The expansion for ecoATM comes after the company took in $17 million in investments, as well as a Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation, back in May of this year. 

"It is exciting to take the first big step in expanding ecoATM's footprint," said Tom Tullie, chairman and CEO. 

EcoATM has committed to keeping at least 100,000 mobile phones out of Texas landfills and paying out $1 million to consumers within the next 12 months. If the company falls short, Tullie said they will double the dollar amount the kiosk network in Texas has collected for local charities during the same period.
