SAWBRIDGEWORTH, HERTFORDSHIRE, United Kingom -- An Internet kiosk company in the UK is placing Internet kiosks where you might least expect it.
RaidNet Limited, a UK Internet kiosk company, has teamed up with Data Vision Europe(DVE), a European hardware manufacturer, to install more than 100 wall-mounted, touchscreen Internet kiosks in pubs throughout the UK. The leased kiosks provide access to popular Web sites, in addition to e-mail and other Internet applications.
Deborah Wilkins, RaidNet sales and marketing manager, said in the future, consumers will find the kiosks in hair salons, physicians' offices or any place that has wall space available. The goal is to deploy more than 300 of the touchEasy™kiosks throughout the UK by summer 2001.
The kiosk lease cost is low, according to RaidNet. The kiosk is equipped with a coin mechanism that allows the operator to charge for Internet access and retain all the revenue. Operators pay 5 pounds a day for installation and management of the kiosk. According to RaidNet, businesses can earn up to 6 pounds per hour from the machine.
According to RaidNet, this is the only offering of its kind in the UK.
