HealthSpot Inc. has recently received significant financial investments from Cox Communications, an Internet provider company, which will help them expand their telemedicine kiosk business by creating a facility in Dublin, Ireland.
HealthSpot’s business model is based on connecting patients with doctors through telepresence kiosks. Essentially, the doctor appears on a screen and the patient can utilize devices such as a stethoscope that are mounted to the kiosk. The doctor receives the results remotely.
Cox Communications has invested a total of $20.7 million over the months since November. Through this investment, by 2018, HealthSpot will be able to expand significantly and hire 90 new employees within the city of Dublin.
HealthSpot’s spokesperson Todd Smith described the kiosks as being like ATMs. Although they are not available for home use, they allow the user to have convenient access to simple medical checkups and to talk to their doctors in real time.
The address for the HealthSpot location has yet to be determined by the Dublin city council.
