SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Microchip developer Intel Corp., developing processing solutions for applications such as kiosks and ATMs, on June 25 announced the addition of two new processors and a new chipset, along with a reference design standard to assist customers in developing communications boards that adhere to the company's EmbeddedATX form factor specifications.
Intel officials said the new Pentium 4 processors, which come in a mobile model at 1.70 GHz and at 2.40 GHz, are designed for use in such high-traffic applications as electronic kiosks and point-of-sale (POS) terminals. The mobile model is priced at $241 per unit in 1,000 unit quantities, while the 2.40 goes for $400 in similar size quantities.
The Intel 845E chipset supports up to two gigabytes of double data rate SDRAM memory at 266 MHz. Intel officials said the chipset is designed to boost performance rates when coupled with Pentium 4 processors.
The Intel 845E Interactive Client Reference Design is designed to assist users that are implementing the EmbeddedATX specification, which is designed for use in POS terminals, kiosks, and ATM machines.
The design, which supports the mobile 1.70 GHZ processor and the Pentium 4 processor at 2 GHz, is available through Intel at this site. The chipset sells for $34 in 1,000 unit quantities.
