Ingenico, a payment solutions provider, has received EMVCo approval for the Book-C8 contactless kernel on the AXIUM DX8000 payment terminal, according to a press release.

Tested in partnership with Fime, a laboratory and tool provider, the kernel aims to enhance security features for the global payment industry.

Features include:

  • Support of cryptographic algorithms using Elliptic Curves (ECC), to ensure the authenticity of a payment card (Offline Data Authentication), a future-proof cryptographic algorithm, in replacement of RSA.
  • Encryption of sensitive data protects against eavesdropping attacks.
  • Relay Resistance Protocol, preventing sophisticated attacks where the customer payment information is used to make a payment at another merchant.

"As a key partner to Ingenico, we are proud to have supported the first EMVCo C-8 Kernel approval," Sherif Samy, SVP Strategy Product and Technology Solutions at Fime, said in the release. "Fime's cutting edge testing solutions, powered by our cloud-based platform, streamlined the process, ensuring a faster and more reliable path to approval. This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing the security and efficiency of contactless payments, driving the industry forward with the C-8 Kernel specification."
