Info Touch Corp. selects Encapsulon for loss-prevention tech

November 7, 2005

ATLANTA - Encapsulon, a software and solution provider that helps retail organizations streamline operations, reduce loss and increase profitability, announced in a news release its loss prevention (LP) software platform has been selected by Info Touch Corp., provider of touchscreen retail point of sale software, for integration into a new solution that combines LP, video surveillance and POS technologies.

The new solution includes Encapsulon's LP software and video equipment offering, StoreSight and Info Touch Corp.'s touchscreen POS technology, Store Manager, giving independent retailers a robust POS system with the added power and security of a proven LP platform. Encapsulon's StoreSight is the exclusive LP solution offered with Info Touch Store Manager versions 9.21 and greater. Info Touch Corp.'s reseller channel will sell the new solution to retailers.

"The impact of LP technology can be tremendous, as Encapsulon saw with home décor retailer Garden Ridge, which realized a savings of $8.5 million within 60 days of implementing our solution," said Encapsulon director of loss prevention and operations strategy, Joe Davis, CPP. "Since many small- and medium-sized retailers don't have budgets for security systems, providing LP tools as an integral part to a POS system allows smaller stores to safeguard their businesses with the same protection as larger stores. As retailers on all levels are implementing upgrades and new POS systems, now is the time to consider the integration of LP technology."

According to the 2005 Retail Technology Study by RIS and Gartner, POS upgrades are expected across all revenue segments in retailing and are likely to remain high for at least the next two years. Additionally, shrink represents an enormous, very costly problem for retailers of all sizes. The frequently quoted $46 billion per year in retail shrink across the United States from Ernst & Young's 2003 Study of Retail Loss Prevention clearly demonstrates the staggering financial impact of unaccounted loss on the retail industry.

"Loss prevention technology has been identified as the transformational solution retailers need to strengthen the effectiveness and usefulness of POS data," said Info Touch chairman and chief executive officer Keith Neerman. "Unlike traditional exception reporting, data mining or other LP tools, Encapsulon's technology consolidates information from multiple systems, such as the POS and integrated video, to compile a complete profile of a loss-causing event. Encapsulon's technology is the ideal LP component of this new solution that will help our customers cost-effectively identify loss due to errors or employee theft, and stop it."
