Indian zoo considering kiosks as part of renovation

July 4, 2002

MYSORE, India -- Modernization, renovation, and resuscitation are the themes at India's Mysore Zoo as zoo officials join in a project designed to transform the zoo and surrounding areas into tourist destinations. Zoo officials said their plans include a pair of interactive touchscreen kiosks.

The zoo is joining with other officials from India's Karanji Lake region to renovate the area. Indian government officials and the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Corp. are helping fund the $180,000 project, according to India's Deccan Herald.

The kiosks will be designed for children. One kiosk will explain the zoo's objectives, while the other will discuss wildlife.

The renovation plans will also include the renovation of five polluted lakes in the region and the creation of a nature park and watch towers for bird watching.
