Indian government uses computer kiosks to teach children

December 29, 2008

ExpressIndia.com: The government of India is using computer kiosks to teach poverty-stricken children basic concepts, life skills, hygiene, and basic mathematics. There are currently two such centers based on NIIT's "Hole in the Wall" program, but 75 are under construction. The kiosks are set up after awareness has been generated about them in the area. The facilitator at the kiosk is a local trained to operate and maintain the kiosk. "The fact that the child comes to the kiosk regularly is a big achievement in itself," said Abhishek Gupta of Hole in the Wall Education Limited.
