The municipal government in Ludhiana, India has begun installing 60 sanitary pad vending machines throughout the city to promote menstrual hygiene and will also install 10 reverse vending machines for plastic recycling, according to an msn.com report.
The city has already installed 15 sanitary pad machines in municipal government offices, a market, a hospital, a bus stand, a railway station and a college.
The machines dispense three pads at a cost of ₹10 (20 cents).
The city will also install an incinerator to dispose of used sanitary napkins near the vending machines.
The city also awarded a contract to install 10 plastic reverse vending machines at public places.
