BANGALORE, India -- Over a thousand villages in Karnataka will get computer kiosks by early 2004.
The project is a "rural digital service" extending the government's land records and utility services plan with private sector participation, said the state's e-governance Secretary Rajeev Chawlain a report in PTI News.
"Once it is operational, the villager need not go to the taluk for his land records or any citizen services," Chawla said. The government will use the kiosks as a delivery platform for a host of services. A person will be available to help rural citizens use the kiosks.
Users may have to pay a fee for the services, according to the report.
"The farmer would pay a nominal fee for the service provided by the kiosk as he would save money and time not traveling to the taluk headquarters,"Chawla said.
