India deploys kiosks to measure AC efficiency

April 8, 2010

One of the world's most populous nations is using kiosk technology to educate residents on energy use.Indian Express.comreports that that nation has deployed kiosks that calculate air-conditioner energy consumption. The information provided by the kiosks matches new energy-efficiency labeling guidelines from the country's Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

The interactive kiosks allow consumers to calculate their energy expenditure based on type of air conditioner and hours of use. The kiosk can calculate annual energy cost and can compare different air conditioner models.

The kiosks are placed in large cities and major stores, but a BEE spokesperson says the bureau hopes to roll out more kiosks throughout the country as the program grows.
