India courts offer kiosks to litigants

October 7, 2003

BOMBAY, India -- Citizens can use touchscreens to gain access to information about their cases or to find the date of their next hearings. A kiosk has been set up on the ground floor at the Bombay High Court to provide details about cases.

"It is an extension of our Web-enabled services," said P.V. Mohan Krishnan, technical director, National Informatics Centre, which has set up the kiosk. The kiosk was inaugurated on Oct. 1, according to an article in Mid-Day.

Litigants can also get information about judges and officers in the High Court. For those confused about the various courtrooms in the gothic structure, there is also a pictorial layout of the court.

The response to the kiosk has been overwhelming, with more than 900 hits on the first day, the article said. The court system is investigating wiring up all the city's lower courts in the next six months.
