India's Ministry of Heavy Industries has allocated Rs 800 crore for the manufacture of hybrid and electric vehicles, according to a Business Standard report.
The ministry released 70% (Rs 560 crore) of the total allotment to Indian Oil Corp., Bharat Petroleum Corp. and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. to commission infrastructure and charging equipment of EV charging stations at retail outlets.
Mahendra Nath Pandey, union minister for heavy industries, said the addition of 7,432 public fast-charging stations will push the country's total installed charging capacity will past the 14,000 mark.
The installations are expected to be completed by March 2024.
