Public universities in Illinois will be required to offer contraception products in vending machines under a proposed bill, according to the National Automatic Merchandising Association weekly affairs wrap up newsletter.

House Bill 4247, which passed a committee and now heads to the House of Representatives, requires public universities to have a minimum of one campus vending machine offering emergency contraception at a discount price.

The bill includes the following requirements:

  • A statement identifying the machine owner.
  • A toll-free number to contact the machine owner.
  • A statement advising the buyer to check the expiration date of the product prior to use.
