Hospital declares self-service HR program a success

September 25, 2002

CHICAGO -- The Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Conn., claims the self-service human resources program it launched more than a year ago is a success.

Informational kiosks powered by Netkey have helped bridge the digital divide with the hospital's employees, according to a news release. Netkey made the announcement Sept. 25 at the HR Tech Conference and Exhibition in Chicago, where the company demonstrated its self-service HR and employee communications programs with Lexmark.

Saint Raphael's environmental and dietary service employees, whose jobs do not typically include using computers, use the kiosks to access the hospital's Intranet and other Web-based employee programs.

"One year later, compiled data and management feedback demonstrate that the self-service kiosks are clearly a welcome addition by our staff," said Ed Maloney, the hospital's director of application delivery, Information Services Division. "Without the kiosks, many of our most valuable workers in environmental services would be cut off from important healthcare and safety updates."

Maloney said since installing the kiosks, human resources has received fewer calls for benefit and training information. (See story: Human resources and kiosks)
