Hong Kong's Watami restaurant group taps Fujitsu for line-busting kiosk system

July 17, 2013

An electronic line management system by Fujitsu, equipped with interactive kiosks and digital signage, is helping satiate hungry restaurant-goers in Hong Kong. According to an article on thestandard.com.hk, Japan's Watami Group deployed the technology throughout its restaurants as a means of retaining patrons during peak hours and long wait times.

The system includes an interactive touchscreen kiosk where patrons sign up for service and receive a printed queue ticket. Another screen above the kiosk is equipped with speakers and announces ticket numbers to be seated. A third screen behind the kiosk allows the restaurant to update menus and daily specials.

"In the current application within Watami restaurants, the system can record the dining process of each ticket, including the waiting time and table assigned to each customer," said Kenneth Law, Fujitsu's head of business solutions, applications and SI, in the article.

Law said the system applies to myriad industries beyond the restaurant sector.

"The system holds huge potential benefits for the food and beverage industry, but can also be applied in other organizations such as banks, hospitals or casinos, which aim to increase flexibility of manpower deployment and enhance efficiency in their operations, especially when it comes to logistical procedures," he said.
