The IT staff at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, adjusted recently installed temperature sensing kiosks so students' private information would not be collected, according to a report in The Hofstra Chronicle. The 21 kiosks installed in dormitories and the student health and wellness center prior to the school's reopening automatically connected to a database that collected names, ID numbers and pictures from students' facial scans.

The kiosks were installed to screen for coronavirus symptoms.

Some students expressed concern when they saw their personal information appearing on the kiosks.

The software reprimands students not wearing masks via an automated voice message.
