Residents and visitors to Washington, D.C. will have access to harm reduction products thanks to vending machines provided by DC Health, the department of behavioral health and the Washington, D.C. fire and emergency medical services department, according to a press release. The machines will offer naloxone, known as Narcan, and fentanyl strips, along with hygiene and wellness products.
DC Health awarded grants in 2021 to two community partners, Family and Medical Counseling Services and HIPS, to pilot the rollouts.
Four of the six machines have already been placed.
In cooperation with the fire and EMS departments, three of the vending machines have been placed outside various firehouses in the district while an additional machine has been placed at the Whitman Walker Health Center.
