Harm reduction supply machines slated for Northern California housing facilities

Vending machines offering free harm reduction supplies such as sterile syringes will be installed in 15 Northern California housing facilities, the San Francisco VA Health Care System announced, according to an abc7news.com report.

Veterans will access the items, which will include first aid kits and condoms, using an access code. The facilities will also have a disposal area for used syringes.

Narcan will not be offered because the health administration requires over-the-counter products to be issued to veterans as prescriptions.

One resident of the Edwin M. Lee Apartments in San Francisco questioned having such items available in an environment where children and families live.
