Gwinnett Med Center goes interactive with kiosk and online bill pay

September 22, 2010

Lawrenceville, Ga.-based Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) announced the system-wide integration of an online bill pay system and the addition of an interactive self-service kiosk at its Lawrenceville campus. The incorporation of the Horizon Patient Kiosk and RelayHealth PatientCompass billing system, by Atlanta-based McKesson Provider Technologies and RelayHealth, emphasize the hospital system's efforts to improve the overall patient experience.

Launched this summer, both technologies have already garnered positive feedback, with more than 3,000 patients accessing the online bill pay system and more than 100 patients utilizing the kiosk.

By utilizing the self-service kiosk in the hospital's imaging building, patients can check-in, update their demographic and insurance information, and electronically sign documents. With the intention to roll out more kiosks in 2011, this technology will help to streamline patient registration, cutting down on both wait times and administrative costs.

This user-friendly process extends to the hospital's new online bill pay system, which provides greater flexibility for patient payment. With 24/7 access, the system allows patients to view their financial information, contact staff, consolidate their family's hospital accounts and remit payment all at the touch of a button. The system also provides answers to common questions patients may have about their bills. By consolidating data into one operating system, the new simplified billing experience is reducing the need for staff assistance while enhancing the overall patient experience.
