JAKARTA, Indonesia - Nearly two-dozen thieves, working their way through a hypermarket in the Jakarta suburb of Bintaro, stole a pair of ATM machines and looted a payphone kiosk on Dec. 27.
According to the Jakarta Post, the 22 thieves broke into the compound around 4 a.m., local time, tied up five security guards, and went on their rampage. The perpetrators made off with the machines in several vans.
Police officials said witnesses are still being interviewed and there was no information on possible suspects. No estimate was placed on total losses in the heist.
The ATMs belonged to Bank Central Asia and Bank International Indonesia. In October, ATMs belonging to Bank Mandiri and Bank Prima Express were stolen in West Jakarta, resulting in losses of about $25,000.
