Global Gaming Expo opens in Las Vegas

September 17, 2002

LAS VEGAS -- The opening of this year's Global Gaming Expo attracted 8,183 attendees and 616 exhibitors on Sept. 17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, according to show organizers.

The second annual gaming conference and trade show features an increased emphasis on the interactive gaming market, with an Interactive Gaming Symposium closing the show on Sept. 20. Symposium seminars will focus on new gaming options, such as kiosks, and the increased role of player identification options, such as biometrics.

Among the kiosk-related companies exhibiting at the show are full-service kiosk provider Apunix Computer Services, touchscreen manufacturers 3M Touch Systems and Elo TouchSystems, and cash acceptor manufacturer MEI.

"As gaming continues its expansion as a leading form of entertainment, so does the need for a premier venue that supports buying and selling activity for the industry," Frank Fahrenkopf, American Gaming Association president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. "Judging by the number of participants here today on both buy and supply sides, an event like G2E is critical for all gaming professionals."
