Soon, residents of Dalton, Georgia, will be able to renew their car tags from a bill-payment kiosk. The kiosk will be installed at the Walnut Avenue Kroger to serve the community, according to a report by The Daily Citizen.
The kiosk manufacturer selected this location after a study revealed most residents lived close to this Kroger location. "For several years I’ve been trying to get the state to approve a kiosk of some sort," Tax Commissioner Danny Sane said. "It’s been a very complicated issue because the state didn’t want to lose control of the actual renewal decals themselves because in the wrong hands they’re worth a lot of money."
In order to use the kiosk, residents can simply scan their license plate renewal notice, swipe their card and receive their tags, according to Sane. If users don't have their notice, the kiosk can look up the resident's data. The kiosk manufacturer charges a $3 convenience fee to users.
The kiosk's overall performance will be evaluated over a 12-month trial. Sane hopes in the future to deploy additional bill payment kiosks, such as one for paying property taxes, according to the report.
