Geneva Airport adds self-serve baggage drop

November 19, 2013

Three Scan&Fly units from Dutch-based technology company Type22 have beeninstalled for a six-month trial at the Geneva Airport. The kiosks provide passengers of SWISS, Lufthansa and a selection of other Star Alliance airlines a self-service option for checking in baggage.

One of the goals of the trial with Scan&Fly is to study how self-service baggage drop will shorten the processing time and how it influences operational aspects such as staffing, queuing and flow speed, according to Type22.

"Geneva Airport experienced capacity constraints in their terminal and saw self bag-drop as solution to create more terminal capacity and to speed up the passenger flow," Jacques Morgenegg, spokesperson for the Geneva Airport, said. "We were looking for a user-friendly solution for the passenger and handling agent in a retrofit package that could be placed on existing infrastructure. Type22 is the only provider that delivers self bag-drop in a combined process, and that was exactly what we were looking for."
