General Bytes, a bitcoin ATM manufacturer, will refund customers that lost bitcoin due to a hack in March. The intruder used a zero-day hack to access sensitive information and more than $1.5 million in bitcoin and $37,000 in ether, according to a report by Cointelegraph.

The hackers remotely uploaded a Java application via the ATM's master service interface and ran it with user privileges. In particular, the hackers targeted the General Bytes Cloud service and others running on the Digital Ocean cloud.

As a result, General Bytes shut down its cloud-based services and is refunding customers. It is also recommending customers migrate to self-hosted servers and then utilizing a virtual private network.

"General Bytes takes the security of our customers' funds and data very seriously. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and remain committed to serving our customers with integrity and professionalism," the company said in a statement.
