Fox News and Fox Corp. settled a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over the media outlet's coverage of false vote-rigging claims in the 2020 U.S. election, according to a Reuters report.
The settlement, which legal observers said is the largest by a U.S. media company, averts a trial.
Dominion sought $1.6 billion in damages in 2021 for airing false claims that the Denver-based company's ballot-counting machines manipulated the election results in favor of Democrat Joe Biden over then-President Donald Trump.
The suit referenced former Trump lawyers Rudolph Giuliani and Sidney Powell who appeared on Fox News to advance the allegations.
Smartmatic, another U.S. voting machine provider, has also sued Fox, seeking $2.7 billion in damages in a New York state court.
