Florida residents recycle containers with reverse vending machine

Coral Gables, Florida residents have recycled more than 1,500 containers through a reverse vending machine as part of a recently introduced rewards incentive program sponsored by a Florida Beverage Association community grant in partnership with the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America, according to a miamitodaynews.com report.

After the first contest cycle closes Jan. 16, the top 10 recyclers will get free movie tickets and popcorn from the Coral Gables Arts Cinema.

Local businesses have been invited to participate by providing incentives to recyclers.

Close to 80% of the participants became repeat recyclers after the city launched the rewards incentive through the Keep Coral Gables Beautiful program at the War Memorial Youth Center in November.
