Florida hospital installs telemedicine kiosk

October 29, 2019

Tampa General, an academic medical center in Tampa, Florida, is the first user of the OnMed Station, which provides telemedicine visits through audio and video technology, in addition to remote diagnostics, according to a medcitynews.com report.

The kiosk is located in the food court and features an automated pharmacy.

Marion Dawkins, director of ambulatory strategy and operations at Tampa General, said 50 to 60 employees have used the OnMed Station over the last two weeks, mainly for ailments like the common cold.

OnMed, based in Clearwater, Florida, offers an exam room and various technologies to ensure patient safety and privacy, such as soundproofing; ultraviolet lighting that keeps air and surfaces free of pathogens; thermal imaging; and tools that collect diagnostic information from patients.

While the kiosk is currently available only to employees of Tampa General, the hospital plans to roll out 10 to 15 additional kiosks in surrounding communities over the next three years in schools, airports, large businesses or other locations.
