ST. PAUL, Minn. - Touchscreen manufacturer 3M Touch Systems Inc., saying its focus was on advanced kiosk technologies, introduced two new MicroTouch flat panel touchscreen monitors on Oct. 17.
The 15.1- and 17-inch monitors are designed for kiosks, industrial enclosures, and other areas that favor compact touchscreens. The monitors, available with either resistive or capacitive touch technology, mark the company's entrance into flat-panel technology.
"The display trend for kiosks and other enclosures is definitely moving toward (flat panel) display technology due to the need for more compact enclosures, better optics, lower power usage, longer life and reduced heat generation than offered by a traditional CRT chassis monitor," Larry Loerch, 3M Touch Systems monitor business team manager, said in a news release.
The monitors are the first products introduced by 3M Touch Systems, a subsidiary of 3M Co. created by the acquisition of touch products manufacturers Dynapro and MicroTouch Systems Inc. last year.
