MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's government is ready to launch the first stage of its e-Mexico project, which will bring public Internet access to all parts of the country.
Contracts for the program's first 1,000 community e-Mexico kiosks will be announced Oct. 16 and 17, according to an Internet Securities, Inc. news release.
The project, coordinated by the National Institute for Adult Education, will connect 3,500 kiosks in 2002, director Julio Cesar Margain said. The government has approved a budget of 663 million pesos (US $65.2 million) to purchase technology goods and networks related to the launch.
