The federal government has authorized all 50 U.S. states to begin building EV charging stations under the federal funding plan, according to an Associated Press report. The plan places one EV charging station every 50 miles along interstate highways.

The Transportation Department approved the last 17 states' plans for building the charging stations, releasing $1.5 billion to all jurisdictions nationwide. The $1.5 billion is the first installment of the $5 billion to be allocated over five years to upgrade or install chargers along 75,000 miles.

The bipartisan infrastructure plan provides another $2.5 billion to fill gaps in the charging network in disadvantaged communities and rural areas.
