California has been authorized to tap federal infrastructure money to expand its EV charging network on its highways and interstates, according to a Sierra Sun Times report.
The U.S. Joint Office of Energy and Transportation approved the plan submitted by the California Energy Commission and Caltrans, the state department of transportation.
The plan is funded by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.
The state expects to receive $384 million over the next five years, building on its own $10 billion investment to transition to zero-emission vehicles by expanding charging infrastructure.
It plans to install 1.2 million chargers along 6,600 miles by 2030 to meet the expected needs of its EV fleet.
