PHILADELPHIA -- The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has opened a new interactive exhibit, Money in Motion, which uses kiosks to make learning about money more fun.
According to a news report in CNN Money,a video kiosk uses pop culture -- Elvis, the space program, and Michael Jordan all appear -- to explain economic history. Another display views the gold standard through a Wizard of Oz lens.
A touchscreen quiz game lets visitors test their knowledge about currency against other patrons.
Visitors can use interactive technology to trace changes in our national currency from the early 1600s to today. They can view money from the original 13 colonies or examine a rare $100,000 bill. They can also learn the U.S. Fed's role in maintaining national financial stability, especially in the days following 9-11-01.
Other displays let visitors explore in-depth our country's monetary policy over the past five decades and learn what indicators the Fed monitors to predict the economic future. The technology also explores the world of payment and debit cards in the electronic age.
