Eyelation, a Chicago area prescription safety eyewear startup that services companies through a self-serve kiosk, announced the company has expanded nationwide within four years of its opening.

The company's eyewear kiosks incorporate proprietary measurement technology to fit people with eyewear and manage employee benefits. The kiosks are designed to enable company administrators to provide a cohesive program to every employee.

Eyelation founder Brad Kirschner started the company after having personally managed traditional safety programs through his family’s optical practice.

"I had an idea for a better way to sell safety glasses. I initially did not set out to be a software startup. I decided to develop our own software when the company I hired to develop the system fell below what I felt were reasonable expectations, and was taking way too long to complete. I knew that if I wanted the project to get completed within a reasonable amount of time, I needed to find an alternative path. So, I started over with my own development team. It was challenging at times. I was trying to maintain a balance between software and business development, managing my family’s optical business and trying to maintain a healthy family life with my wife and children. It was nuts, but it was the best decision I could have made for the business," Kirschner said in a statement.

Eyelation serves more than 125,000 industrial workers in its safety program in the US, and plans to cover over 1,000,000 workers within a few years. The program has been helpful to employees who traditionally have trouble receiving the same services as their day-shift counterparts, the company said.
