SAN DIEGO and MEXICO CITY -- EWI Prepaid, provider of advanced prepaid services and technologies, announced separate distribution agreements with Avantel, a leading provider of prepaid long-distance in Mexico; and Todito, S.A. de C.V., a leading Internet portal, ISP and e-commerce site for both Mexican residents and North American Spanish-speakers. Under the agreements, EWI will distribute these companies' prepaid services electronically with its PinXpress payment-processing solution.
Consumers can now purchase prepaid services from convenience stores and other locations throughout Mexico, according to a news release. See related stories, "Info Touch, EWI Prepaid pair on PIN-based products," "EWI Prepaid, WebRaiser enter marketing agreement."
Avantel will offer its prepaid long-distance services electronically for the first time through PinXpress, the standard for real-time delivery of PIN codes. Now consumers can purchase an Avantel prepaid long-distance from a POS retailer and instantly receive a PIN to use the service. Avantel is a leader in telecommunications offering a wide range of products and services to the corporate and residential market and is owned by MCI Worldcom and Banamex.
"We see this distribution partnership with EWI as a great way to increase our market share in the very competitive prepaid long-distance market," said Javier Altamirano, director Alternative Channels for Avantel, in the release.
"Electronic prepaid vouchers instead of physical cards, using EWI's technology, will lower our risk of theft, reduce our card production costs and provide real-time reporting features so we can easily track the distribution of our services."
Todito is Mexico's leader in prepaid Internet connections and is aggressively targeting the North American Hispanic Internet market. With PinXpress, Todito will offer its prepaid Todito ISP service for Internet connections in the United States and Mexico.
