EV charging stations enter 'phase 2,' gain visibility

Electric vehicle charging stations are entering a new phase, including converted gas stations and more elaborate signage, no longer confined to parking lots and highway rest stops, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

The new generation of EV owners will have less disposable income than the "innovator" phase and less access to charging at home, where private garages and dedicated parking areas set up for EV charging.

EVs accounted for 7.2% of global car sales in the first six months of 2021, up from 4.3% in 2020 and 2.6% in 2019, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
