Eurostar intros facial check-in for rail service

Eurostar, an international rail service connecting the U.K. with mainland Europe, has announced the roll-out of SmartCheck, a contactless facial check-in system supplied by iProov, a provider of biometric solutions, according to a press release.

Travelers use their mobile device to enroll their ticket, passport and identity before they travel, providing a ticketless experience that will speed up the passenger journey and streamline border control.

Passengers can go through one passport check instead of two.

"By introducing SmartCheck, we become the first rail travel operator to adopt biometric face verification," Gwendoline Cazenave, Eurostar Group CEO, said in the press release.
