The Bolton NHS Foundation Trust at the Royal Bolton Hospital in Greater Manchester, England, is introducing digital check-in kiosks across its outpatient departments as part of a broader effort to modernize services and prepare for future healthcare needs. The rollout begins this month and will cover most outpatient departments at the hospital as well as community health centers across Bolton. According to a report in the Bolton News, the project is aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the overall patient experience.
The self-service kiosks allow patients to check in quickly and securely when they arrive, removing the need to line up at reception desks. This approach is intended to reduce congestion in waiting areas, streamline patient flow and give patients greater control over their appointments. Patients can also choose to check in using their mobile devices.
Hospital leadership describes the kiosks as an important step in the trust's digital transformation efforts. Officials say they will actively gather patient feedback and make adjustments as needed to ensure the new check-in process works smoothly.
