EcoATM, a company specializing in electronics recycling, has entered the Canadian market through a new partnership with Walmart, according to a press release. The initial launch includes 13 self-serve kiosks in select Walmart stores across the Greater Toronto Area, specifically in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville and Burlington. The kiosks allow customers to trade in used smartphones for instant cash.
According to the press release, the launch aims to address Canada's growing e-waste problem, which is projected to reach 1.2 million tons annually by 2030.
"At ecoATM, we are committed to driving the re-commerce revolution by making it easier than ever for people to embrace sustainability," Matt Furlong, CEO of ecoATM said in the release. The company plans to refurbish and give a second life to the collected devices, keeping them out of landfills.
