DVD rental kiosks to open in Taiwan

DIGITIMES: SFMM Inc., a subsidiary of Taiwan-based optical disc maker CMC Magnetics, has introduced its kiosk-based automatic rental DVD movie service for launch in the Taiwan market under the brand name DVDbox. SMFF is initially deploying 20 rental kiosks, mainly at convenience stores in Taipei, for a three-month test and then plans to set up a network of 500 kiosks around Taiwan by the end of 2008. In addition to convenience stores, kiosk locations will include subway and high-speed railway stations, hospitals, hotels, large retail stores and fast-food restaurants.
